Formula E, officially the FIA Formula E Championship, is a class of auto racing sanctioned by the FIA, and is the highest class of competitions for one make, single seater, electrically powered racing cars. The series was conceived in 2012, and the inaugural championship started in Beijing on 13th of September 2014.

There are ten teams, 20 drivers and 40 cars (Each team includes two drivers and four cars)

E-Prix are held in nine cities across the world. Racing circuits are located in cities and are approximately 2-3.4 kilometres long. The generators used to re-charge the batteries are powered by Glycerine, a by-product of bio-diesel production.

There are nine host cities for the 2016/17 edition of the competition. Hong Kong hosts the opening race of the circuit, followed by Morocco, Argentina, Mexico, Monaco, France, Germany, Belgium and then two races in each of the United States and Canada to conclude the season.

35 years after his father’s first Formula One victory, Nelson Piquet Jr took the inaugural Formula E Championship in 2014, at the same venue as his father.

The 2016/17 version is the franchise’s third, Sebastien Buemi is the defending drivers champion while Renault e.dams are the defending teams champion.
